Check eligibility before the date
- Mandatory training must be completed and registered, the theory test passed, the required police approval received, and a medical certificate submitted if needed.
- Check Din side rather than relying on someone saying a course is finished.
- Confirm seasonal arrangements, including Trafikant i mørket, with the school.
- A booking alone does not establish eligibility.
Identification and vehicle
- Bring valid identification.
- The test car must be approved by Statens vegvesen and hired from a driving school.
- Arrange the car and transmission in advance; do not assume you can simply arrive in a private car.
- Check the meeting place, time, payment and cancellation deadline in your booking.
- School hire and the test fee may be separate costs.
Three parts, not just driving
The test includes vehicle preparation, a sampled safety check and driving.
SVV gives an overall duration of 55–75 minutes depending on category, not a promise of 55–60 minutes behind the wheel. Checks may involve brakes or washer fluid, for example. Learn the particular car and explain what a check establishes, not just where the button is.
The route
The route is prepared in advance and the examiner tells you where to go.
You perform the tasks independently and remain the responsible driver. Ask calmly for clarification if needed instead of making a risky turn to guess the instruction. The official general description does not guarantee a navigation-device section or a route you have memorised.
Assessment
The performance is assessed as a whole as far as possible: safe decisions, observation, control and interaction matter.
There is no universal promise of three permitted minor mistakes, nor that every stall automatically fails the test. Continue safely after an error instead of rushing to compensate. You receive the result and written reasons after the test.
After the result
- If successful, order the licence as instructed by SVV; the temporary permit is valid only in Norway.
- An automatic-car test results in an automatic-transmission restriction.
- After failing Class B, wait at least four weeks before another attempt and pay again.
- Review the written assessment with an instructor and practise specific weaknesses.
- Waiting alone does not improve the skill.
